Business Plan

Posted on 26th May 2011 by Rodger

Marcia and Rodger met with Jupe Herrick to discuss the “business” development side of Reach.  The focus was on finding analogies within the College of Engineering for revenue structure, identifying potential funding sources, and involving Jupe in the development of Reach’s business plan.

Program analogies:

Women & Minorities in Engineering Program (WMEP). K-12 outreach programs. Saturday Morning Engineering Club, Summer Engineering Camps for High School Students.  Camp, $500 for one week intensive.   Scholarships available through  Bohemian Pharos fund.  WMEP Coordinator, Aaron Benally.

National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere, Chandrasekar Chandra, deputy director and a co-principal investigator of the CSU-CHILL radar facility.  Ask about their education outreach programs.

RET-Site Program in Light & Optics for the NSF EUV ERC.  Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) in Engineering Site program at the Colorado State University, “RET-Site Program in Light & Optics for the NSF EUV ERC, under the direction of Dr. Jorge Rocca.  This could be a possible funding stream, if Reach/CMMAP wants to take the summer teacher’s course, for example, in that direction.

Programs in Natural Resources EOC.

Contacts to explore funding possibilities:

Engineering Development Office.  Audra Brickner (Director of Development), Ashley Waddell (Corporate & Foundation Relations, also friend of Scott).  Jupe indicated that the office should be willing to help identify funding sources for Reach, particularly in its inception, and noted that Reach’s mission is consistent with the land grant mission of “outreach to the populace”.

Other business:

Discussion of CMMAP’s role with LSOP and possible role Reach may play in assisting long term sustainability of LSOP.  At what level is CSU Physics Dept. currently funding LSOP?  Current level of foundation support?

Action items:

  1. Put together list of potential funding sources already identified (Marcia)
  2. Touch base with other groups at CSU with outreach programs similar to those under Reach (e.g. WMEP, ERC, NR-EOC) and Brian Jones to discuss his vision for LSOP sustainability. (Rodger)
  3. Set up meeting with Engineering Development Office. (Jupe)
